Ards CC Press Release

The Tour of Ards will be held on Saturday 27th March with new race Headquarters in St.Patricks Parish Centre in Victoria Avenue Newtownards, (not the Portaferry Road as stated in the Year Book).  The race course is unchanged from previous years and the finish is still on the Portaferry Road. Race distance is 100 kilometres and all categories except A4 are permitted to compete. Some riders who have been given A4 licences by CI may want to be upgraded. This has happened in our own club where riders were more capable than many who had been given A3s. If this applies to you then you will need to have an A3 licence before you submit an entry form. If the race field is oversubscribed any person who doesn't get a ride will have the entry fee refunded.

This is not a handicapped race. Good race fitness is required, your current form is a good indication of this and makes for a better field than the 'first come first served' criteria. We will be as fair as possible in selecting entries.

Race sign on will be from 10.30am. The race will leave St Patricks Hall at 11.50am approximately and ride in a neutralised fashion to the race start on the Bangor Road.

A TOA section 'button' will soon be on our website where maps and other race details will be posted over the next few weeks.

We have asked on our entry form if you or your club can supply a marshal/helper if needed. This is a precautionary measure for the club to help us ensure safety during the race. We hope to have enough marshals from our own club. Our race requires 28 static marshals(this includes some marshalling at more than one spot) and approximately 16 other officials - car drivers, servicing teas timekeepers etc. The PSNI tell us where they want us to have marshals and how many at each point. We cannot 'cut corners' on that issue.
