25/11/2011
The sixth and final round of the 2011 Ulster Cyclo-Cross Series will take place on Sunday 27 November 2011 at the stunning Kilbroney Park in Rostrevor, hosted by Newry Wheelers.

There has been a great history of cyclo-cross races at this venue and Drew McKinley and his team are hoping to continue that traditional this weekend.

There will be the usual support races for Under 8s, Under 10s, Under 12s, Under 14s and Under 16s. For the over 16s there is a mountain bike support race for those who do not own a cyclo-cross bike. The main event is the cyclo-cross race which begins at 1 pm and is expected to attract a large entry of riders.

Pre-registration
Pre-registration has opened for this round and riders are asked to use this facility to help speed up administration on the day.

STILL NOT SURE WHAT CYCLO-CROSS IS???
Cyclo-cross is a form of cycle racing which takes place off-road mostly in public parks. The races are typically run during the late autumn and winter months around short, mostly flat circuits. The races are full of action with the short courses meaning lots of laps, a great spectator sport. With the race finishing within the hour the riders have to go for it from the whistle and the first lap is usually the most exciting to watch. All through the riders there are mini-races with everyone out to do well

Cyclo-cross venues are suitable for all levels of riders as the off-road course is flat with few obstacles which makes for a great racing circuit. These are ideal for anyone wanting to try out off-road racing. The mountain bike support race has seen over 200% growth since 2010 which shows there is a market for this type of racing. The MTB racers can partake and then stay on to watch and add their support to the main event.
