Women's Leinster Team Race in Emyvale

24/05/2010
Team races in Women's National League in Emyvale.

A team from the recently formed Women's Leinster Squad made their debut, racing in the hotly contested Round 3 of the Women's National League in Emyvale.

The selected riders for this event were Fiona Guihan (jun), Andrea Fagan, Sandra Telford and Sandra Fitzgerald. The Team was managed by Coleen Foley (previous member of the Irish Development Team), and coached by former International rider Gillian McDarby, and top coach Paddy Doran.

Doran sees this as a "great initiative by the Leinster Commission" pointing out that the strong emphasis on coaching in this system will help identify and develop some great cyclists. He acknowledges the fine work of the clubs in getting these new riders to their current level, and believes that they will benefit greatly from the guidance of the management team, which also includes Valerie Considine (Women's Rep on the Leinster Commission), who has previously managed teams in top races, including the World B Championships in Aigle, 2003.
