Ninth for Ryan in the Individual Pursuit, and Irvine sets up his World Championship bid sitting in 6th place in the Men's Omnium.
Day three of the Track Cycling World Championships saw two Irish riders in action. Caroline Ryan, who narrowly missed out on a medal at the Cali World Cup, rode a solid race in the Women's Individual Pursuit. Ryan claimed ninth place in a highly competitive event, which was won by the reigning World Champion Sarah Hammer (USA) in a time of 3.33.522. The Apeldoorn velodrome is widely acknowledged as being a "slow" track, due the bowl shape, proven by Hammer's time being 11 seconds slower than her own World Record! Ryan, in a time of 3.44.264 started off hard, holding 5th place in the opening kilometre.
Martyn Irvine is lying in 6th place after two events in the Men's Omnium. This 6 race event will span two days, and following a 7th place in the opening flying lap, and a solid 11th place in the points race, Irvine is in a good position at this point, as his forte lies in the time trial events which will take place tomorrow (Saturday).
