IRISH JUNIOR TEAM - GOREY

Irish Junior Team: Gorey 3 Day – Easter 2011

The Irish Junior Team of Ryan Mullen, Conor Mcllwaine, Ian Inglis, Matthew Adair and Javin Nulty performed well over Easter with a stage win for Ryan Mullen in the TT followed up with 2nd place on stage 3 for Ian Inglis while Conor Mcllwaine took 3rd place on stage 1 on his way to an excellent 2nd place overall. The lads won the team prize and were competitive across the points and mountains competitions. This was the first time this team had ridden together and with Matthew Adair in support it was a great team effort and we look forward to bigger performances and results as they mature as a group. Team manager Neil Martin was pleased with the riders performances and how they conducted themselves over the weekend and started to learn how to ride as a team. Performance Director Phil Leigh commented, “We have identified a group of junior riders we can now coach and direct though to U23 level. We have high hopes for them, but this is only the beginning and these juniors, along with others we will introduce in further races are an integral part of our new development system we are beginning to roll out through 2011”.

SENIOR TEAM - EAST MIDLANDS

East Midlands Classic – Sunday 17th April 2011

The Ireland team of Martyn Irvine, Ryan Sherlock, Ewen McDonald and Damien Shaw had a tough time in the dust and farm tracks that dominated the 9th edition of the Tesco sponsored East Midlands Classic in the UK. The usual race long break failed to materialise and instead it was a war of attrition. Martyn Irvine 5th in this race two years ago was continually in or near the front group, however a succession of punctures; 5 in all! Eventually took their toll and Martyn finished a disappointed 36th. We had two other finishers in Ryan and Damien with Belgium based Ewen a non finisher after pulling out after the 120km mark. Manager Ryan Connor was expecting more but with his star rider suffering 5 punctures it was always going to be a big ask. The other lads will learn from the experience and take it into their next races.
