Following on from another successful training camp in Charleville, Co. Cork, the Cycling Ireland Road Commission have confirmed their follow-up camp in Ulster. Based in the centre of the beautiful Sperrin mountains, the Silverbirch hotel in Omagh, Co. Tyrone will host the second national training camp and provide cyclists with excellent accommodation, and access to challenging training roads used a lot over this past few years in the Tour of Ulster. The camp will take place on the 5th and 6th February.
Cycling Ireland hope to have some experienced mentors in attendance again to give younger riders valuable advice and guidance, and there will once again be coaching experts available to provide specialist advice for our up-and-coming riders.
Attendance at the second and final camp for 2011 will be essential for selection onto Development squads, as will criteria outlined in Charleville including completion of the UCI True Champion or Cheat anti-doping programme. The camp is once again aimed at men and women at relevant ages, and there will be a series of fitness tests arranged in provinces to test riders in advance of the camp. Test results will be used to form target groups which will be monitored during the training camp.
Further details about the camp, and rider testing will follow soon.
